We passed through Romania and Bulgaria. It is amazing how poor and rural these countries are in comparison to their Western European neighbors. Western goods pass in huge modern trucks to Turkey and Greece, next to local horse-drawn carts. The police are always asking for tips, they'll stop you for every possible reason. But they won't bother you further, if you give them a small amount of money. The people we meet were very friendly, although we did hear some authentic horror stories of Gypsies throwing their children on the road in order to stop and rob you.
